My American Story

I don’t really know why I came to the United States. In all fairness, I was 11-years-old and my mom brought me here for reasons of her own, adult reasons that I had no say over, but I refuse to accept that the last ten years of my life passed by just because my mom didn’t want to leave me behind.

The Jones Rivalry Over, What’s Next For Daniel Cormier?

At 38 years old, there is very little in the mixed martial arts (MMA) world that Daniel “DC” Cormier has not done. He is a former Team USA Olympic Freestyle Wrestling captain, he is the former Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion, he is undefeated in the UFC Heavyweight division, he is the former UFC Light Heavyweight champion, he went undefeated for 15 fights in his professional MMA career, he fought and dominated top contenders, and until UFC 214 last Saturday night (July 29, 2017), he had never been finished in a fight.

“DC” has done it all; that is, except defeat his greatest enemy, Jon “Bones” Jones.

The Rise and Fall of Ronda Rousey

Ricardo Montero-Hernández

Two years ago, Business Insider called Ronda Rousey “The most dominant athlete alive,” but after getting knocked out twice in a row, the media is already asking if she is going to retire at only 30-years-old. In addition to the tickets, FCR pledged to build parks, a healthcare center, affordable housing and create jobs for locals. They even promised a meditation room. However, on a recent visit to the Barclays Center during a Nets game, one of our reporters noted that the meditation room, a place of respite from the madness of game day, was locked.

The Impact of Fake News on the National DACA Debate

Ricardo Montero-Hernandez

A lack of news literacy is having an effect on the national debate over “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” (DACA), and whether or not President Donald Trump should rescind former President Barack Obama’s executive action to give certain protections and benefits to eligible people brought to the U.S. illegally by undocumented individuals. While it may seem like a simple “yes” or “no” answer depending on personal views on immigration and policy, the question of whether or not President Trump should get rid of DACA brings up themes of morality, national identity, national security, guilt, free will and the punishment of children.

How Uber Seduced the NY Senate

Ricardo Montero-Hernandez

Even though Uber Technologies Inc. had been lobbying in the state of New York since 2013, its efforts to spread from New York City to the rest of the state have been in vain. Buffalo, being one of the largest cities in the country without access to Uber, is a juicy market that Uber has wanted to devour for a while, blocked only by the dissonance between the Republican-controlled New York State Senate and the Democrat-led State Assembly.
